“Oh, she looks like a guy. She can’t grow all that muscle, she must be on testosterone. Muscular girls? Oh, please no!” Talk to a girl who packs on impressive muscles and she would tell you about all the bullshit she has to go through. Every day. The irony here is that all these statements often come from men who can’t lift and from women, who are often heard saying, ‘I just want to tone up, not gain muscle’. So if you identify as the one demeaning muscular female athletes, here are 5 good enough reasons to keep your mouth zipped!
1) First things first: get a hold on your ego, bro! Most men wouldn’t agree but the truth is that they just can’t imbibe the feeling of a woman being more muscular than them. Especially, those pseudo gym heads who have been trying to gain muscle and failed. Right from lifting heavy when you can’t to judging somebody who’s more jacked than you, all stems from an ego problem. Trash your ego and remember that you should be taking notes from the women who can bench twice and squat thrice than your best!
2) Respect their courage! You don’t have any idea how much women have to go through, socially, when it comes to sports like bodybuilding and Olympic weight lifting. Not only they bravely tread into the sports that are primarily considered a ‘man’s territory’, but also get judged by everyday people on their bodily changes. Still, these women refuse to back down and rise as champions. That’s called courage while all you can do is click a selfie in the gym!
3) Almost 95% of you will never even come closer to the slightest amount of dedication these women put into transforming their physiques for competitions. A lot of competing bodybuilding female athletes also manage regular jobs and a healthy family life. Couple all that with an unshakable and exhausting fitness routine and you have an embodiment of human perfection. So shut the fuck up when your lazy ass can’t see the gym after the second week!
4) It’s the sport that demands them to look the way they do. If you have even a little bit of common sense, you will agree that an athlete’s appearance is driven by their respective sport. Just like marathon runners are skinny, powerlifters are humongous and basketball players are tall, bodybuilders are muscular. Bodybuilding as a sport focuses on the growth and development of muscles. It’s not about having a pretty face!
5) Most of all, these ‘muscular woman’ are inspiring other women. Their achievements are waking up millions of females to sports like bodybuilding, CrossFit, Powerlifting and others that women feared because their bodies will be looked down upon. So, here, this is what matters. She’s not here to please you!
If those women use steroids; they clearly have nothing to complain about.
